Maverick Industries was founded by Edward Mackin in 1982 and was primarily focused on selling indoor and outdoor barbeque grills. Towards the end of the 1990's they began to realize that the market for their products was becoming saturated and searched for new products on which to focus. They eventually decided to begin selling smaller kitchen electrical appliances such as toasters. steamers, digital thermometers, alongside the grills it was already known for.

These days Maverick is known more for its digital cooking thermometer than its grill products. They had introduced their thermometer just as the American people were being advised by USDA to use thermometers to test meat before eating - an obvious boost to sales.

After the success of the Maverick thermometer they looked to develop new products and in 1998 they launched the ET-7 - The worlds first remote cooking thermometer. This innovation and reputation for quality has seen Maverick become the leading producer of digital probe thermometers in the YS.
